Holiday resort on the middle stretch of the Riviera degli Olivi where Lake Garda opens out after the enchanting promontory of San Vigilio and the Bay of Mermaids. Once a Roman town: it lies reflected in an attractive panoramic bay, dominated by the old Camaldolite monasterty and the legendary wooded Rocca or fortress from which the prisoner Queen Adelaide fled to Canossa to marry Otto I, King of Germany. The town has many fine villas and gardens as well as Gothic and Renaissance buildings, some of which are attributed to the architect Sanmicheli. The panoramic hinterland has plenty of walks that reach Monte Baldo (2.218 mt): the Botanical Garden of Europe. The walk along the beach as far as the romantic Promontory of San Vigilio (3 Km) is particulary beautiful.
